Our Work

Supporting Underground Schools

Since 2021, girls in Afghanistan have been barred from classrooms beyond sixth grade. These are the classrooms that kept going anyway.

her story

She never gave up the locations, teachers nor students

ASRF has rescued a young woman who spent most of a year in prison for having started up 23 underground schools for girls with 2000+ students. She self funded her endeavor with a carpet business. She never gave up the locations, teacher nor students.

When we heard she was about to be arrested again due to her ignoring a Taliban mandate to drop this activity, as she had started up 5 schools with 300 students, we moved her to another country.

The picture to the right is from her efforts. The girls are not praying, but being told to lower their heads for the photo. They dress in black which is but one of many precautions in place to avoid arrest on their way to/from school.
