Every girl deserves the freedom to learn.

ASRF helps Afghan girls escape danger, continue their education abroad, and build lives of freedom and possibility.

Education is forbidden. Hope is not.

Millions of Afghan girls are denied the right to learn. ASRF creates pathways to safety and education so they can build a future of their own choosing.

Why “Scout”?

It started with a promise “to help other people at all times,” part of the Scout Oath.

After Kabul fell in 2021, members of Afghanistan’s Scouting leadership and their families received death threats. ASRF’s founder helped them reach safety and organized multi-year support until they received refugee admission to the US and Canada. What began as an emergency effort to help Afghan Scouts grew into a broader mission — helping students, especially young women, escape danger and continue their education.

Their voices belong in the rooms where decisions are made.

ASRF students practice the maxim that ‘democracy is not a spectator sport.’ They have met with members and committees of Congress to advocate for Afghan women’s access to education and protections for Afghan students in the US. They are speaking for their peers and helping shape their own futures.

When words aren’t enough, they create.

Through ASRF’s Book Club and Art Therapy programs, students process the distance between the lives they left and the lives they’re building — in their own words, and their own images.
