In her own words. Tamana came to the United States at sixteen, in the summer of 2024.
I came to the United States at the age of 16 in the summer of 2024. I am a dedicated student with a variety of talents and ambitions. From aspiring to become a doctor to dreaming of becoming an entrepreneur, I am determined to pursue my goals. I have wanted to become a doctor since first grade, and began gaining hands-on experience in the medical field at the age of 14. At the same time, my talent for tailoring inspired me to take my skills to the next level by pursuing fashion design and one day opening my own clothing brand.
In the two years I have been in the United States, I have achieved many accomplishments. I volunteered with the Red Cross in the Mass Care Sheltering section, am in an internship with Children’s Hospital Colorado through the MC² program, designed clothing and launched her first boutique as her senior Capstone Project, in addition to recently joining a fashion program called Slay the Runway in Boulder Co. I became the Vice President of the first UNICEF Club in Boulder County. In addition, I have participated in numerous short-term community service and volunteer activities. Although I am going to graduate high school in 2027, my journey in the United States has only just begun.
